UK Internet Population Drop Off Suggests Trend, Says BMRB

In February, the number of internet users in the UK fell. Although this has happened before, previous declines have been the results of seasonal trends – students not online during summer holidays and so on. Early indications for March suggest that the decline in numbers is continuing, prompting BMRBi to forecast that the decline is actually the beginning of a trend.

The number of new people going online is no longer enough to outweigh those discontinuing internet use. In the past three months around 2 million people have started using the internet but 3 million have lapsed. In total 7 million adults in the UK say they have used the internet in the past but no longer do so.
