US Attacks Hit Internet
The internet struggled to cope with demand for access yesterday afternoon as as millions of users logged on to visit news sites following the terrorist attacks on US political, military and economic centres.
The BBC, Reuters, Sky, CNN and ITN news sites were all unavailable as of 4pm yesterday and according to press reports 80% of the worldwide web was suspended due to over demand.
The attacks, which began at 2pm BST yesterday, sparked an overwhelming demand for instant news, which clogged servers, rendering many online news site inaccessible.
