Vanessa Rapped Over Taste And Decency Complaint
In the monthly complaints bulletin from the Broadcasting Standards Council, a complaint made by a viewer concerning the Vanessa show was upheld on the grounds of taste & decency. The viewer complained that it was offensive to show a 16 month old baby with premature sexual maturation on this programme. The complaint was upheld because the committee was uneasy about the display of very young children as part of a talk show.
Of the 635 complaints dealt with in May, 11 were upheld and two were upheld in part. Among them, included complaints against an advertisement for Accurist watches, a trailer for Soldier, Soldier and children’s programme Run The Risk for the use of sexual innuendoes.
Emmerdale once again was the subject of controversy after a scene concerning the blessing of a lesbian wedding; however the complaint was not upheld this time. The Archers too, did not escape the wrath of the public, with a complaint from a listener about the use of the word “shit”. However this particular word does not rate highly on the scale of offence in the Councils Research and the complaint was not upheld.
