Viacom Outdoor Secures Brands For Jubilee Packages

Viacom-Outdoor has secured five major brands to use its new Golden Jubilee bus advertising packages which launch in London this month.
Each package consists of 10 gold Routemaster buses which have been specially commissioned to mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in June. Nestle’s Felix, Marks and Spencer, Mars Celebrations, Unilever’s Surf and Transport for London have all signed up to use the packages, which run until November this year.
Sales director of Viacom Outdoor’s special projects department, Nicky Cheshire, said: “The Golden Jubilee presents a unique opportunity for prestigious brands to align themselves with celebrations at both a national and community level. The 50 golden buses will be highly visible throughout London and will remain a key symbol of the event for years to come.”
Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, added: “2002 will see an unprecedented level of focus on London from around the world and I am delighted that London buses and taxis will play a key role in the celebrations right across the capital.”
In 1977 Viacom Outdoor launched 25 silver buses to mark the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. Advertisers to take advantage of the package included Abbey National, The Mirror and Nat West.
A recent report from Blade found that Bus advertising is leading a recovery in outdoor revenue. The delay to the launch of Viacom Outdoor’s XTP system (see XTP Delay Could Cost Outdoor Industry £10m) has caused Blade to cut its forecast from last year of 4% growth in 2002, but it is still expecting 2.7% growth in revenue for the year (see Bus Ads Leading Outdoor To Recovery, Says Blade).
