Virgin Radio Nets First Online Advertisers
Virgin Radio has announced the signing of its first ten advertisers on its new online radio service. The group was one of the first to offer separate advertising specifically targeting online listeners last month (see Virgin Launches Separate Branding For Online Radio Stream).
Direct Line, monster.co.uk, thesun.co.uk and supergoals.co.uk are amongst the founder advertisers to the service, which streams the same programming as Virgin Radio but is branded separately. The advertisers involved have created audio commercials designed specifically to drive listeners to their websites.
Peter Corfield, marketing manager for Rescue at Direct Line, said: “Online advertising is an attractive proposition for us. We now use Virgin Radio to target two groups of consumers. Our online sponsorship of Virgin’s Traffic and Travel for our recovery business to target people in their cars and the internet to recruit members online.”
Virgin Radio is actively driving listeners to the new online streaming of the station’s output and encouraging listeners to stay for longer periods of time with promotional competitions.
Steve Taylor, enterprise director at the station, said: “Our listeners have a greater propensity to use the internet than the norm, and tend to be early adopters of technology, which makes them particularly attractive for our new online clients.”
