Virgin Radio To Launch Liquid At Teenagers

Virgin Radio has announced the launch of a new digital radio station aimed at teenagers. The station named Liquid is billed as; ‘the first pure chart radio service for London’ and will be a music led service featuring news, information and features designed to appeal to a core teenage audience.

SMG commercial development director, Lee Roberts said: “There are over 1.5m teenagers in London and this is set to grow over the next five years as the grandchildren of baby boomers mature. Teenagers are extremely musically aware and account for 60% of singles sales every year. Liquid will be highly focussed on chart music and current trends in youth culture.”

A Virgin Radio spokesperson today said; “It’s early days so at the moment we haven’t got any specific marketing strategy but we plan a lot of cross media advertising.”

The new station, which is set to go on air at the end of the year, will broadcast on the London digital multiplex licence recently awarded to Digital Radio Group (see
