Virginia Bottomley – DAB Approval

Virginia Bottomley has given official government support to the BBC’s launch yesterday of Digital Audio Broadcasting.

Mrs Bottomley said ” This is a major landmark on the way to a digital future. Digital broadcasters will mean that listeners will be able to receive all five of the BBC’s radio stations with quality of sound and no interference.

The BBC will also be able to provide extra sports programmes from the world service, thus increasing choice and availability of information for listeners.

By being one of the first countries to begin digital broadcasting, we have the opportunity to become world leaders both in the manufacture of equipment and supply of programmes.”
