VNU Acquires Nielsen Media Research For $6.2bn

Dutch publisher VNU has entered into a merger agreement with the leading US television ratings supplier, Nielsen Media Research.
The agreement, worth $6.2 billion, will place VNU, which owns UK titles including Computing and Accountancy Age, at the forefront of the US marketing information industry. It is thought that Nielsen’s ‘must-have information’ will combine well with the publisher’s own research data on advertising performance and consumer and lifestyle interests.
Earlier this month VNU extended its publishing list by acquiring CMP Worldwide Media (see United News & Media Sell CMP To VNU).
