March marks B Corp month when the global B Corp community celebrates what it means to be a B Corp, build awareness of the movement, and educate audiences on the importance of transforming our economic system for the better.
With the world facing existential challenges, B Corps are companies who choose not to prioritise profit over people and the planet and be a force for good. As part of B Corp month, we wanted to share our commitment at Adwanted Group (formerly Mediatel) to achieving B Corp status across the company and to encourage others who are on the same journey to engage with us.
Back in October last year, at our “Future of Media” event we held discussions with the great and good of the UK’s media industry to vote on what should be the most important themes for The Media Leader to report on in 2023.
Those were: championing talent; sustainability and trust in media.
During one of those discussions, Guy Sellers from Total Media spoke about how transformative being awarded B Corp status had been for their business. We had already embarked on a number of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) measures including a wide-reaching Diversity, Equality and Inclusion initiative, but we saw how undertaking the B Corp assessment could provide our business with a framework to extend our commitment to using our platforms as a force for good, into the very DNA of our operations and impact.
There are now over 1,100 B Corps in the UK and we are seeing an increasing number of our friends in advertising and media having successfully been through the assessment process to become fully fledged B Corps. Many have been kind enough to help us with some excellent advice and encouragement, for which, we are very grateful.
