TV listing magazine What’s on TV has joined forces with mobile entertainment specialists K2 Media to launch a new direct-to-consumer mobile service.
The new mobile service is set to feature up-to-the-minute TV and sport lisings by region, including both Sky and Freeview, as well as upcoming soap storylines, TV news and gossip, and TV and film ‘picks of the day’.
It will also feature more than 5000 K2 mobile downloads, including the latest ringtones, games, animations and text alerts, according to the entertainment company.
What’s on TV‘s mobile service will be promoted across IPC’s TV weekly magazines as well as on the title’s website, www.whatsontv.co.uk – users will be encouraged to vist the free service with regular promotions and competitions.
Angie O’Farrell, publishing director of What’s on TV, said: “What’s on TV mobile gives our readers access to the latest TV content, on the go.
“We have a much-loved and well-established brand and this development further advances What’s on TV‘s presence in the digital space, complementing the successful website.”
K2’s managing director, Steve Kitchen, added: “This is a great partnership that allows both companies to deliver their combined range of content to the consumer, under a fantastic brand.
“The site clearly reflects the rapidly expanding versatility and use of the mobile device and its increasing position as a genuine form of media in its own right.”
In the latest ABC release, What’s on TV suffered a 5% year on year decline but still managed to remain one of the market leaders with a circulation of more than 1.3 million copies (see ABC Results July-Dec 2008:All TV listing titles see circulation declines again this period).
