Woolworths has been signed as the multimillion sponsor of the Network Chart Show, in what is thought to be the biggest sponsorship deal in British radio history.
The two-year agreement, which was signed with Capital Radio Group’s commercial division on behalf of Network Chart Ltd, begins this Sunday when the Woolworth’s Hit 40 UK will be broadcast to a national network of 96 stations between 4pm and 7pm.
The show, which replaces the Pepsi Chart, will be hosted by Capital 95.8 FM DJ, Neil Fox. It will contain a range of new features and greater interactivity through a series of off-air brand extensions, including a website and an SMS text club.
Capital claims the deal will give the Hit 40 an unrivalled presence on the high-street, with in-store branding appearing in all 827 Woolworths and Woolworths Big W stores.
Commenting on the deal, Paul Davies, operations director at Capital Radio, commented: “We are thrilled to be taking the UK’s leading music property onto the high-street by partnering with Woolworths. This offers our national network of 96 local radio stations unprecedented presence in every city centre, ensuring that the Hit 40 UK brand plays an active role in consumers every day lives.”
Jim Freeman, head of radio at Zenith Optimedia, who brokered the deal, added: “This goes way beyond anything ever done before in any medium, and it is a partnership that totally makes sense to the listener and consumer.”
Earlier this month Emap launched its new interactive Smash Hits Chart Show across its portfolio of radio stations, which includes London-based Kiss 100, Key 103 in Manchester, Radio Aire in Leeds and Radio City in Liverpool. The show will also air on the Smash Hits digital TV channel (see Emap Launches Re-Vamped Chart Show).
