Yahoo! Expands Central Marketing Operations

Yahoo! has expanded is central online and search marketing operations with two key appointments designed to support its drive to generate alternative streams of revenue.
The move will see the appointment of Rich Pearson to the newly created role of head of direct and online marketing for its European operations. He will take on overall responsibility for the company’s direct marketing efforts and will work to maximise subscriber and revenue growth across its premium services.
Pearson was formerly head of Yahoo! premium services in the US, where he developed marketing plans for new products aimed at consumers and small businesses. He also created strategies to cross-sell marketing efforts across the Yahoo! network.
Meanwhile, Patrik Oqvist has been appointed to the position of head of search marketing with responsibility for expanding this area of the business across Europe. He joins Yahoo! after spending two years as head of marketing at Air Miles, where he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s sales and marketing operations.
The newly expanded marketing team will work closely with country Yahoo!’s individual country-based teams across Europe to ensure a unified strategic approach and effective local executions.
Commenting on the appointments, Yahoo! Europe’s director of marketing, Lindsay Biggart, said: “The expansion of the European marketing team reflects our commitment to become leaders in the field of online marketing and our continued focus on driving product marketing strategies across Europe.”
She added: “As we continue to diversify our revenue streams through premium services like BT Yahoo!, it is imperative that we continue to build deeper relationships with our 31 million European users. Both Rich and Patrik bring a wealth of traditional marketing experience to Yahoo! to help drive our consumer-centric approach to marketing operations across Europe.”
Yahoo! UK and Ireland recently restructured its sales division in an attempt to improve relations with media planning and buying agencies.
