Thirty eight percent of US online consumers are fans of at least one company or brand on Facebook, according to a new study from digital marketing firms ExactTarget and CoTweet.
The 18-24 year old demographic has the highest percentage (54%) of fans, the study reveals, while 11% of online consumers aged 65 and older are Facebook brand fans.
Twenty five to 40-year olds are also fans at a significantly higher-than-average rate (47%), while 55-to-64-year-olds are fans at a significantly lower-than-average rate (20%).
The study also shows that just 5% of online consumers are followers of at least one company or brand on Twitter.
This percentage rises to its highest rate among 18 to 24 year olds (9%) and falls to it lowest rate among 65 and older (0%).
According to new Hitwise figures, social networks now receive more UK internet visits than search engines.
During May, social networks accounted for 11.88% of UK internet visits, said Hitwise, with search engines accounting for 11.33%.
