YouView strengthens TalkTalk’s subscriber base

TalkTalkTelecoms group TalkTalk have released their third quarter results, revealing that their customer base has grown for the first time in three years.

Thanks to the launch of YouView, TalkTalk have seen their TV subscribers jump to 80,000 for the quarter ending December 2012.

Despite the uptake of the YouView-powered service, TalkTalk’s overall revenue fell from £422 million in the second quarter to £415 million.

The results also revealed that 30% of all TV subscribers are new to TalkTalk, with the remainder upsold from the internet service provider’s Essentials and Plus broadband packages.

“We have returned our total customer base to growth for the first time in three years – an important milestone on our journey to become a growing and more profitable business,” said Dido Harding, chief executive of TalkTalk.

“We successfully launched TV and mobile handsets this summer and the growth in take-up by both existing and new customers underlines the scale of opportunity we see in these additional products. With good trading momentum across the business, we have entered the final quarter strongly focused on execution”
