The TV Triangle has today announced the ‘Out of the Box’ hackathon for the UK TV industry. To be held at iBurbia Studios in Chiswick over the weekend of 22nd – 24th March, the event is intended to challenge the way we watch television today.
Bringing together creatives, web and TV tech groups into a series of team challenges, the event will explore what television could look like if the normal rules are allowed to be broken.
“We want teams to rethink the way we watch television,” says chairman of the judging Panel William Cooper. “This is a chance for teams from around the TV industry to showcase their creative thinking or technical ability – outside of the confines of their normal work life.”
Teams are expected to develop bold concepts, even if they do not conform to usual industry expectations. They can be practical, disruptive, or inspirational. The idea is to force people to think out of the box, break conventions, ignore the normal rules and disrupt the traditional view of television.
A team may represent a company or be a group of individuals with a concept or prototype they want to work on and present.
The work sessions will be interspersed with seminars and tech advice from various industry experts and there will be the obligatory social sessions through the weekend.
Event organiser Will Neale, CEO of Showcaster TV, said: “we will be announcing judges and final teams nearer the time, but it is suddenly getting competitive out there – some surprising names are dropping into the hat.”
The TV Triangle is an informal networking group for the TV industry, loosely clustered around three points in West London – Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith and Brentford. It is the focal point for three quarters of the UK’s television industry.
