YouTube has launched a remote control app for Apple devices, allowing users to control and play videos on digital TV sets with the single press of a button.

The latest development from YouTube means that the app is now usable on iPhone and iPad, giving smartphone and tablet users the opportunity to watch YouTube videos much “faster” and in better definition, said by a spokesperson for YouTube.

Upon selecting the “Pair YouTube TV” option in the settings alongside a numerical code, users will be able to connect their device to compatible connected television sets, with the option to pause, skip and fast forward videos, whilst being able to use their smartphone and tablet devices as a second screen to browse videos whilst watching the current one on TV.

The remote control app is also available on services such as TiVo and Freesat, with both services recently launching YouTube apps as a part of their packages.
