BBC Sport has confirmed that it will be broadcasting live coverage of the Rugby League World Cup right through to 2017, and 2014 and 2016 coverage of the Four Nations.

The broadcast agreement was reached with IMG and will show the coverage across the BBC’s TV, radio and online platforms, cementing BBC Sport as the terrestrial home of England international action.

“It’s very exciting to cap our Rugby League portfolio with the top international tournaments, enabling us to offer audiences the pinnacle events of the sport each year,” said Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport.

“These add to our already comprehensive coverage, which gives the full narrative of the season. This is a great opportunity to bring Rugby League to a wide audience and showcase the best players in the world through the BBC’s multi-platform coverage.”

In addition to TV, radio and online coverage, rugby highlights will be available via the BBC Sport app.

The Rugby will join the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Football World Cup, the 2016 Rio Olympics and the World Athletics Championships in the BBC’s sports coverage portfolio.
