Media engagement company Shazam has launched a redesigned app for iPad users that includes auto-tagging and real-time engagement.

Sponsored by Fiat and Fox, the auto-tagging feature will enable users to recognise and engage with any media playing around them in real-time, from music to TV programmes and adverts.

With the new app, users will also have access to integrated streaming with Rdio (a database of music), where tag results allow users to instantly listen to the song again if they have a subscription to Rdio or sign up for a trial.

Other features include interactive mapping, ‘lightning fast’ tagging, and a new layout that makes it easier for users to track what friends have been listening to and watching.

“During the last year, we have seen triple-digit growth in the number of downloads of the iPad version of our app,” said Rich Riley, CEO of Shazam.

“iPad offers an ideal way to experience more on the second screen as people watch television (the first screen), giving them more space to engage in additional content. Our new app gives our fans the most efficient way to experience more of the media around them whether they are in their home or anywhere throughout the world.”

More than 300 million people use Shazam across the globe, with the app accessed over 10 million times every day.

The new version of the Shazam app will be available on all iOS devices, including the iPod touch.
