It was a mixed bag of results for online news sites in September, according to the latest ABC findings – but a slight improvement on August’s figures.
Trinity Mirror Nationals recorded the greatest growth in daily average unique browsers, up 12.9% and adding an extra 442,600, closely followed by the Independent online which was up 12.8% and adding an extra 272,700.
MailOnline continued to lead the charge with almost 11.8 million average daily browsers, with a small 4% increase over the month netting the site an extra 451,700; however its sister site, Metro online, was down -3.7% (-56,100).
An 11.9% period on period (PoP) increase saw an extra 690,200 daily visitors flock to guardian.co.uk, taking its total to just under 6.5 million, while growth of 11.4% PoP boosted Telegraph online’s daily audience by 406,200 to just under 3.4 million.
Standard.co.uk was up a marginal 1.5% last month, adding an extra 5,200 and taking its average daily total browser count to just short of 351,000.
Liverpoolecho.co.uk suffered the biggest hit in September, down -32% to lose a little over 126,000 daily visitors, followed by dailystar.co.uk, which was down -20.3% (-141,200) and express.co.uk, down -11.7% (-99,800).
