Internet Media Trading System Developed By iMediaPoint.com

A new web-based media trading system that will allow media buyers and sellers to trade inventory online is currently being developed by a company called iMediaPoint.com. The system, which is due for launch in the fourth quarter of this year, will offer a broad range of media space including radio, internet and television.

Heading up the project is Jean-Louis Velaise, who comes from a background in managing television stations. Velaise says that iMediaPoint has been created to offer buyers and sellers an effective way of selling the more complex of advertising and sponsorship packages. He says: “I have learned that media sales works on an 80/20 principle, where 80% of the inventory is sold in 20% of the time and the remaining, more complex packages take a lot of effort and time to shift.”

It is these areas – sponsorships, packages with no clear rating information, audiences that are difficult to reach – that iMediaPoint will concentrate on. Velaise argues that not all media can be bought and sold online, but certain media can. In this way, iMediaPoint intends not to be a substitute for traditional sales practices, but rather complementary to them.

Media sellers are able to post their own inventory on the website which buyers can then access and bid for. iMediaPoint has developed a patented auctioning system which is specifically designed for the media sales industry, allowing buyers and sellers to bid for media space in real time. The service will initially be available for UK media only, but Velaise says there are plans to subsequently roll out overseas.
