C4 appoints managing editor to curate All 4

Channel 4 has appointed Charlie Palmer to the newly created role of managing editor of its All 4 platform, it has been announced.

Set to deliver the editorial proposition and curate the viewer experience, Palmer was previously head of viewer relationship management at the broadcaster.

All 4 hosts original programming, catch-up, box sets and live content and has over 13 million registered viewers including half of all 16-34 year olds in the UK.

Reporting to Richard Davidson-Houston, head of All 4 and digital content, Palmer will oversee All 4’s multi-million pound original content budget which covers original commissions, acquisitions and TV programme extras and extensions. He will also oversee the online video commissioning editors, the programme support and the online channel management team.

Palmer will also be responsible for adapting All 4’s editorial proposition across different platforms, including PC, iOS and Android, as well as create cross-platform promotion opportunities.

“Charlie brings extensive, high-profile creative experience, an instinct for brand building and a passionately-held vision for where we need to take All 4 editorially,” said Davidson-Houston. “This is an exciting moment.”

The appointment completes the senior All 4 team headed up by Davidson-Houston and overseen by Jay Hunt, chief creative officer. Palmer joins Sarah Milton, All 4 head of product, who is responsible for driving the All 4 product offer and ensuring its usability, design, functionality and commercial capability.

Palmer will take up this post on 1 January.
