Revenue

According to agency estimates, total revenue for terrestrial television including GMTV saw a year on year fall in October of 12.7%. Of the terrestrial channels, only Channel 5 recorded an increase, adding 7.9% to reach 20.3m. GMTV fell nearly 30%, while ITV dropped 16%.

Total satellite broke its pattern of year on year rises in revenue, falling 0.5%.

In the year on year analysis of revenue share, Carlton continues to command the largest share amongst the franchises, with. It also saw the largest increase of the franchises, going up 0.6 percentage points. Second place belongs to Central, which saw year on year increase of 0.4 percentage points. The largest fall was seen at LWT, which dropped 0.9 percentage points, although it still remains in the top three franchises in terms of revenue share.

Costs Per Thousand

Costs per thousand (CPT) at the larger terrestrial channels, ITV and Channel 4, fell across the board during October. At ITV the largest drops were in the Housewives category, down 19.5% and Women, down 18.6%. For Channel 4, Men was reduced by 10.6% and ABC1 Adults by 8.9% in a year on year comparison.

Channel 5, conversely, saw rises in all categories except Men, which dropped 4.5%. The most notable was the rise in ABC1 Adult CPTs, which jumped 17.1%.

Commercial Impacts

October saw a mixed bag for the terrestrial channels in terms of commercial impacts. ITV had drops in the Men and ABC1 Adult categories (1.4% and 0.5% respectively), but saw Housewives go up by 4.4%.

Channel 5 had an increase in the Housewives with Children category of 7.8% but dropped 7.8% among ABC1 Adults and 5.3% among Women. Channel 4 saw commercial impacts in the Women and Housewives categories decrease by 1.4% and 1.1% respectively, but Men rose 5.6%.

Once again Satellite saw increases across the board. Most notable was ABC1 Adults, which rose 41.6%.
