WHSmith Trials In Store Screen Advertising

High street newsagent chain WHSmith is trialling M-cast, a screen-based system for in-store promotion, in one of its London Metro stores. The system, developed by Australian company Info-Onscreen, allows stores to target consumers with offers and promotions at the point of purchase.

The system uses screens placed around the store. These can either be programmed to show the same information throughout the store, which could be relevant to a particular location or demographic, or individually, for example to promote a particular product displayed below the screen itself.

As well as offers and promotions, the system can be used to provide information such as news and sport. Individual advertisers could also arrange to lease airtime on retailer’s screens.
