Cinema Advertising Shows A Decade Of Growth

Annual cinema advertising revenues for 1999 were £123m for 1999, representing a year on year growth of 23%. The latest figures from the Advertising Association show that for the first time the £100m annual revenue barrier has been broken.

In the last decade, cinema advertising has recorded the largest growth of all the UK advertising media, reflecting the growing popularity and development of multiplex cinemas. This has led to a 60% increase in audience size for the same period, with admissions for January to April this year reaching 52m, up 17% compared to last year.

With cinema’s share of display advertising now at 1.2%, top spenders this year include Nike, Vodafone, Royal Mail and Pantene. Jayne Rumsey, sales director of Carlton Screen Advertising commented: “Advertisers have embraced the cinema medium as there is now a greater understanding of what it can deliver, both in terms of its impact and audience delivery.”
