GfK has this week estimated the UK satellite dish universe to have reached 2.015 million – a lower figure than both BARB and Continental Research:
Total 1992 GfK 2.015 BARB 2.297 C.R. 2.596 BSkyB 2.900
It should be noted, however, that the GfK survey does not cover either Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or The Isle of Man – which would in effect add a further 60,000 onto their total, thus bringing them within the BARB sampling error range.
Gary Davey, BSkyB’s deputy managing director, claimed the dish universe was actually nearer to 2.9m. BSkyB claims around 1.75m subscribers for at least one of its paid-for services among dish owners. Amid the continuing controversy over dish universe size the MRG will be holding a discussion on the matter on 3rd March – Contact Peter Bowman,
WCRS for further details (071 242 2800).
