National Newspaper NRS Round-Up – March 2001

Readership of national newspapers showed a year on year decline of 3.3%, according to NRS figures released for March 2001.

Among only four titles which managed a year on year increase for the six month period were tabloids the Sun and the Mirror. The Sun still leads the field, with a readership which grew 1.8%, while the Mirror added 1.9%.

The largest losses were seen in the mid and broadsheet markets. Worst hit was the Daily Express, which continued its pattern of decline by losing 18% of readership. The Guardian and the Independent On Sunday both dropped 15.9%, while the Financial Times which has seen growth in recent monthly NRS figures, this time saw a small decline, of 0.7%.
