BBC Magazines Appeal Against MMC

A BBC Enterprises spokesperson told MediaTel today that they have three months in which to reason with the DTI before implementation of the MMC report restricting promotion of their magazines on BBCTV (NewsLine 7/8).

Discussions will take place with the Director General of Fair Trading, Sir Bryan Carsberg. The BBC’s argument is likely to centre around the premise that to have to promote other magazines on the BBC too would breach the Royal Charter. The BBC also feel that the restrictions go against the Government requests for them to raise money from sources other than the licence fee.
