WPP Acquires UK Communications Consultancy

WPP’s wholly-owned global branding, identity and consulting group, The Brand Union, has acquired UK-based Marketing & Communication Agency (“MCA”), an internal communications consultancy, for an undisclosed sum.

MCA has offices in London, New York and Stockholm and specialises in providing multinational clients with brand-building tools, on both a corporate and employee level, through the creation of ‘brand ambassadors’. Its clients include British Airways, Cadbury Schweppes and NTL. The business will be merged with WPP’s internal communications specialists Banner McBride with immediate effect.

MCA had revenues of £8.8 million in 2000 and had net assets of £1.9 million as at 31 December 2000.

The acquisition of MCA continues WPP’s strategy of strengthening its networks in important growth sectors and markets. To this end WPP recently bought UK-based customer relationship management consultancy, QCi Assessment. WPP says that the area of internal communications is one of the key opportunities and challenges facing its clients.
