The latest RAJAR figures for local commercial radio showed that weekly reach has decreased by 280,000 or 1% quarter on quarter, now standing at 54% or 26.2m. Local commercial radio’s share of listening has also dropped, by 0.8 percentage points to 37.9%.
The following tables show the best and worst performers, in terms of weekly reach and share of listening, of the local commercial stations broadcasting outside London. The largest percentage increase in terms of weekly reach was seen at Preston-based station Magic 999, which added 37.4% to achieve 125,000. The worst was Somerset’s Breeze 1521, which dropped 45.5% in its weekly reach, to just 6,000 compared to the quarter ended September 2000.
The best performance in terms of share of listening was 103.4 The Beach. The East Anglian station increased its share to 18% during the quarter, up 3.8 percentage points. The largest fall in share was suffered by North Lancashire’s Bay Radio, which fell 5.1 percentage points to 19.2%.
New stations reporting this quarter were 107.8 Arrow, based in Kent; SouthCity FM, based on the South Coast; 107.7 WFM, a small scale alternative location local licence, or “Sallie”, in North Somerset and Win 107.2 in Hampshire.
