Pinterest will offer employees extended paid leave for new parents, pregnancy loss and babies in intensive care amongst other benefits.
Starting on 1 January 2022, a minimum of 20 weeks parental leave will be offered for all employees who become parents to a newborn or newly-adopted child.
This is extended from 12 weeks for adoptive parents who will also receive $5,000 to $10,000 USD, or the local equivalent, in assistance.
Eight weeks of paid family care leave will be offered to parents whose babies are in neonatal intensive care.
A new policy also provides four weeks of paid leave for parents who have a miscarriage at any stage of pregnancy.
Pinterest has extended its benefit of making two IVF cycles and egg freezing available to US employees.
The company has existing benefits including personalised parenting support, breast milk shipments for business travelling, and free Calm subscriptions for employees and family members.
The social media platform also provides four weeks of paid Covid-related leave if employees have to care for children because of school or childcare closures, or have recovering parents or caregivers, and “Pintention Days” where the entire company takes a day off to spend however they choose.
Christine Deputy, Pinterest chief people officer said: “Parents deserve support and a balanced work environment at all stages of family planning and child care, especially in the midst of a public health crisis.
“Extending our benefits to offer all employees more time and support to care for their children- and themselves- is critical to foster a positive environment for working parents in an ever changing landscape.
“People do their best work when they feel seen and supported in a workplace that’s inclusive and inspiring.”
