UK Regional Press publisher , Thomson Corporation, has been severely hit by the recession and has announced that it may have to close or sell up to one fifth of its free titles to counteract the effects.
Meetings are taking place today to decide on which titles will be shut down and plans to put the others on the market will go into action. It has been confirmed that none of Thomson’s paid-for titles will be affected by the cuts, only some of its 76 free newspapers. The Canadian controlled group will also sell 30 out of 217 of its papers in the United States and Canada.
