Culture shock: the real reason employees are jumping ship

Culture shock: the real reason employees are jumping ship

Culture matters. As the war on talent rages on, higher salaries aren’t the only thing tempting employees to switch jobs. Culture is proving to be key in attracting and retaining top talent.

When searching for a new job, 77% of respondents told Glassdoor they would consider a company’s culture before applying. While this has always been important, in the last few years culture has become even more of a motivator for job applicants. Interestingly, Glassdoor respondents revealed culture matters even more to millennials and younger adults. Of those surveyed, 66% of UK millennials were more likely to care about work culture over salary, than those aged 45 and older (52%).

What counts as ‘company culture’ to employees in 2022 isn’t necessarily their ties with their coworkers. Rather, it may be the knowledge that internal advancements trump new hires, or that they’re getting paid well and receiving generous holiday and parental leave policies, they can work remotely or that their company’s mission aligns with their own values.

While the media industry in general has a poor track record when it comes to company culture there are organisations striving to do better. From the creation of culture-specific jobs like this TikTok role now accepting applications to companies like Indeed which is setting a new benchmark for an innovative and inclusive company culture, change is afoot.

If you’re reconsidering your current role, you’ve come to the right place. Read on for three great companies currently hiring and for thousands more, check out our job board today.
