BBC Good Food Launches Vegetarian Spin-Off Title

BBC Good Food magazine is launching a spin-off title called Vegetarian Christmas, aimed at readers catering for people with special dietry requirements over the festive period.

The one-off title, published once a year since 2000, goes on sale on 5 November for eight weeks with a cover-price of £2.60 and an initial print run of 110,000. It will be edited by Gillian Carter, editor of BBC Good Food magazine.

The title features a range of recipes from top celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver, Gary Rhodes and Ainsley Harriott, as well as doyen of vegetarian cookery Rose Elliott. Highlights from the magazine also include great wines for Christmas, shopping treats and a review of the best vegetarian books.

Nicki Hill, food group publisher said: “BBC Good Food Vegetarian Christmas is always a huge success. This year, we’re packing the issue with 86 of the best ever recipes alongside tips on festive entertaining to ensure that our readers get an unbeatable package of vegetarian Christmas foodie advice.”

The latest ABC results for the six months to June 2004 reveal a disappointing performance for BBC Good Food magazine, which saw its circulation decline by 6.3% year on year to 304,144. However, the BBC recently launched a new luxury food and travel title, Olive, which entered the market with a circulation of 63,517.

Earlier this month Olive formed a unique partnership with women’s website Handbag.com to provide a range of food content on the women’s website. The deal will see the title play a major role in Handbag.com’s food pages including monthly updated features such as Simple Suppers and Food in Season, as well as a selection of restaurants from Olive‘s ongoing Top 100 list (see BBC’s Olive Signs Content Deal With Handbag.com).
