Espotting Bolsters Management Team With Marketing Role

Espotting Media, the online search targeted marketing company, has bolstered its senior management team with the promotion of Chrys Philalithes to the newly created role of European marketing director.

The position will see Philalithes assume responsibility for all marketing and communications initiatives across Europe. She will also be a key player in the integration of Espotting and FindWhat.com following their £135 million merger earlier this year (see Espotting Merges With US Firm In £97 Million Deal).

Philalithes, who helped launch Espotting’s pay-per-click business model in the UK, brings more than eight years of experience to the new role having previously been the company’s UK marketing director. Prior to that she was new business manager at advertising agency WCRS.

Commenting on the new European marketing role, Espotting co-founder, Seb Bishop, said: “Chrys’s promotion is testament to the job she has done for Espotting. Her promotion highlights that as the company has grown, so too have the opportunities for our employees.”

It is understood that the company will not appoint a new UK marketing director after restructuring its European operations and installing marketing managers in each of the eight territories it operates in. Alexis Sitaropoulos will take the UK role.

Espotting provides cost-per-click marketing solutions to more than 16,000 clients and is one of the few internet start-ups to have prospered in the wake of the dotcom crash. The company launched in the UK in September 2000 and has since expanded into France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Ireland and Switzerland.

Paid-for-search listings now account for well over 36% of the total online advertising market and the Internet Advertising Bureau expects growth to continue throughout 2004 as an increasing number of marketers realise the potential of the internet as a direct marketing medium (see Online Expected To See Revenue Reach £350 Million).

The rapid growth of search targeted marketing recently prompted E-Consultancy to call for the creation of an independent body to develop best practice guidelines for the sector. The online market research firm has published a special 125-page report to help educate advertisers interested in paid-for-listings (see Search Marketing Needs Best Practice Guidelines).
