Sunday Times Creates CD Of Summer Festival Music

The Sunday Times has produced a special eight-track CD featuring artists such as Morrissey, Belle & Sebastian and The Strokes to mark the summer music festival season.

The Festival Fever 04 CD will be given away with copies of the broadsheet newspaper on August 22 in the London LWT/Carlton television area. It will be supported by a radio advertising campaign running in and around the Capital on the same day.

Commenting on the initiative, Andrew Mullins, marketing director at Times Newspapers Ltd, said: “This CD should give readers a real taster of some fantastic new artists – some of whom will be performing at Reading and Leeds in the forthcoming few weeks. It will be a great keepsake to celebrate the end of the festival season.”

The latest ABC results for the six months to July 2004 show that the Sunday Times saw its circulation decline by 1.6% year on year to 1,350,384. However, the paper’s daily sibling fared better with a 1.6% increase during the same period to 655,314.

Earlier this month Sunday Times-owner Times Newspapers Limited secured the £100,000 account to promote the launch of the DaimlerChrysler’s new ‘smart forfour’ brand. Promotional activity will appear in a range of News International titles, as well as in The Month and across Times Online.

Commenting on the account win, which was first prize in the prestigious DaimlerChrysler Award, TNL’s development director, Claire Myerscough, said: “Winning is a true reflection of our ability to match the increasing demands of clients and their agencies for impact, creativity and for solutions which are most effective against the brief.”
