Natmags Draws Line To Spearhead New Launch

The National Magazine Company has announced the appointment of Matthew Line, a former editor of IPC’s Homes & Gardens, to spearhead a high-profile new launch.

Line left Homes & Gardens two years ago to become chief executive of The Prince’s Foundation, where he has been involved in urban design and architecture. Prior to that, he headed the home interest division at Redwood Publishing, where he launched a number of customer titles.

Line’s particular area of expertise is in the upmarket end of the home interest sector, prompting speculation that Natmags is planning to launch another homes title. It already publishes Good Housekeeping and House Beautiful, but was forced to close Your Home last year due to declining sales.

Commenting on the appointment, Duncan Edwards, managing director at Natmags, said, “I’m delighted that Matthew has joined the company. We are currently working on a number of new magazine concepts and Matthew is the perfect person to head up the development team on one of our most promising ideas.”

Line, who is widely respected as something of an industry veteran, added: “It is difficult not to be persuaded back into the highly creative world of magazines, particularly on such an exciting project. I relish the challenges that lie ahead.”

Natmags has been working on a number of new launches over the last three years and recently announced plans to unveil a new celebrity-focused weekly to go head-to-head with Emap’s highly successful Closer in the rapidly expanding sector.

Natmags is looking to select a core team for the launch, which is not expected until next year. However, Edwards stressed that the magazine, dubbed Reveal, is at an embryonic stage and that details such as price and pagination are some way off being decided (see Natmags To Take On Closer With New Celebrity Weekly).
