Times Tees Off Ryder Coverage With Faldo Supplement

The Sunday Times is to capitalise on one of the sporting world’s most prestigious events this month, with a 32-page guide to the Ryder Cup published with the paper on 12 September and featuring exclusive analysis from Nick Faldo, the contest’s most successful player of all time.

The supplement will offer readers the opportunity to take part in Faldo’s master class series at The Grove in Hertfordshire in October, as well as an overview of the tournament by Nick Pitt conveying the magic and drama of one of sport’s most compelling contest.

Among the other features packed into the guide will be profiles of the teams with pen portraits and Ryder Cup records, expert critique of the legendary Oakland Hills course and a piece on Donald Ross, the architect who designed it. Along with a history of the tournament, a TV guide and a comprehensive records section the guide promises to be unmissable reading for any golfing fanatic.

The Guide is sponsored by Sky and will be supported by a national television and radio campaign running in September. The Sunday Times will also be publishing the only one-on-one interview with European Ryder Cup Captain, Bernard Langer on September 12, prior to the tournament and his open press conference.

The Times recently unveiled a multi-million pound advertising campaign featuring stars such as Gordon Ramsay, Johnny Wilkinson and Jodie Kidd in an attempt to establish itself as a balanced and agenda setting newspaper.

The wide-ranging campaign, created by Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, will see the newspaper abandon its three-year-old ‘What’s important’ strapline in favour of ‘Join the debate’, which will act as a unifying theme for the brand in future promotions (see Times Turns To Celebrities With New Branding Campaign).
