Mobile Phone Users View Record Number Of WAP Pages

The number of people accessing the internet via their mobile phones continued to increase during November with the total number of WAP page impressions rising to a record 947 million.

According to the latest research from the Mobile Data Association, November’s figure represents an increase of 50 million page impressions on October’s total and provides the highest monthly figure since records began.

The daily average for November rose to 31 million page impressions, compared to just 12 million per day being viewed via the UK’s four GSM network operators in the same period the previous year.

The number of WAP page impressions appears to be rising exponentially and November’s figure provides a cumulative total of 8.2 billion for 2003 as a whole, which exceeds recent predictions that levels would reach 8 billion by the end of last year.

The text message craze is also continuing apace and the most recent figures from the MDA show that the number of texts sent in one day reached an all time high on New Year’s Day with people across the country sending 111 million seasonal SMS messages to friends and relatives (see Record Number Of Text Messages Sent On New Year’s Day).
