Former SIRS Boss Joins UTV Radio As Commercial Head

UTV Radio Logo Phil Quartly, former managing director of radio sales house SIRS, is to become commercial director at UTV Radio.

The move sees the radio sales boss part company with Emap, which secured his services in the takeover of SIRS’ parent company, Scottish Radio Holdings, in August (see Emap Takeover Of SRH Cleared).

The new role will see Quartly join UTV Radio as the company prepares to capitalise on recent acquisitions from The Wireless Group (TWG), a takeover of which was approved by shareholders in June (see UTV Shareholders Approve TWG Acquisition).

The acquisition gave UTV control of talkSPORT, the UK’s only national commercial speech radio station, as well as 16 independent radio stations and Talk 107, a new all speech station soon to be launched in Edinburgh. The company also holds stakes in five of the UK’s 14 digital radio multiplexes.

TWG was rebranded as UTV Radio earlier this year, housing all of the company’s radio interests including former TWG assets and Liverpool’s Juice FM, which UTV bought outright last month.
