Galaxy Signs Cross-Network Campaign With Sony

TV Easy Commercial radio network Galaxy 102 has announced plans to embark on a cross-network promotional campaign with Sony Playstation, designed to give its breakfast listeners the chance to demonstrate their singing skills and win Sony prizes.

The campaign will launch today across all four Galaxy stations, with the promotion centered around the launch of kareoke computer game, SingStar Popworld, the latest release in the SingStar series exclusively for PlayStation2.

Each morning for two weeks, Galaxy’s breakfast presenters will host a head-to-head competition in which two listeners pit their vocal talents against each other, taking it in turns in sing consecutive lines to a well known song. The DJ’s will judge the best singer and reward them with a new slimeline Playstation2, a Sony 21″ TV and a copy of the SingStar Popworld game.

Commenting on the deal, Richard Brinkman, non spot sales director at Chrysalis Radio said: “As a brand, Sony PlayStation2 allies itself perfectly to the Galaxy listener. The promotion will inject even more humour and fun into the breakfast shows whilst raising awareness of Sony’s new product.”

Last month saw Chrysalis admit that it had held preliminary discussions over the acquisition of GMG Radio. However, GMG soon moved to quash speculation of any merger, stating that it would not consider selling its radio stations for less than £150 million, making it unlikely that a deal will be made anytime soon (see GMG Quashes Imminent Deal Rumours).

Chrysalis remains upbeat concerning its plans for expansion, meanwhile, with the company stating it was unperturbed by GMG’s merger rebuttal, and that it would continue its search for acquisitions and merger opportunities (see Chrysalis Unperturbed By GMG Takeover Rebuttal).
