Webb Resigns From News International

News International Logo Richard Webb, general manager of News Group Newspapers, has resigned after ten years in the company, as part of a reshuffle in the senior management team at Times Newspapers.

Webb will be replaced by Mike Gordon, commercial director for the group, while Clive Milner, managing director at TNL, will be broadening his role in the shake up, assuming the position of group managing director.

Paul Hayes, general manger at the group is taking over Milner’s position and Andy Mullins, marketing director on TNL will step into Hayes’ old role.

The restructure will also see Ian Clarke, commercial director at News International, moving to Times Newspapers where he will be involved in trading, development and online in his role as advertising director.

Earlier this month, News International was reported to be inviting potential bids for the Times Educational supplement along side other specialist titles, with the education business valued at approximately £250 million (see News International To Sell Education Titles).

According to the Financial Times, Rupert Murdoch had discussed the potential disposal of the assets at a News Corporation board meeting in London last month.

Last month saw News International (NI) announce a review of its media buying arrangements, inviting Carat, the incumbent agency who have worked on the NI account for almost a decade, to pitch for the business alongside other candidates (see News International Puts Buying Account Up For Grabs).

The agency chosen to deal with the NI account will need to handle a varied brief, focusing mainly on television and radio, but also incorporating all elements of the marketing mix including posters, online and planning.
