BT Vision Launches Without Major Marketing Campaign

BT House BT Vision, the communications giant’s IPTV service, will come on to the market next month without a major marketing push, with the company waiting until next spring to fully promote the technology.

The launch allows BT to stick to the autumn timetable it previously set, with some saying the subdued arrival of the product is to calm unrest amongst BT shareholders, who are keen to see the service delivered on time.

One BT Vision content partner told the trade press that the November launch “wouldn’t have bells and whistles” but that a full line-up of content will enhance the service next year.

Some of the service’s content partners (see Future Signs BT Vision Deal) are understood to have made short-term deals with BT earlier this year, meaning a delay in launching would eat into the amount of time their content will be available (see BT And Sony BMG In Music Video Deal).

BT Vision allows consumers to download on-demand content direct to a set-top box linked to a television set (see BT Unveils Next Generation TV Service).
