Emap Plans For Regional Radio Stations

Emap Plans For Regional Radio Stations

Emap Logo Emap plans to create city-specific digital radio stations on the back of its existing brands.

The new local stations will retain the media group’s already established brand identities such as Kiss and Kerrang but would feature local content and presenters for individual cities.

The plans come amidst the news that the company has seen a 9% rise in pre-tax profits to £223 million for the year ending March 2005. Underlying revenues were up 8% to £1.1 billion.

Excluding Emap’s acquisition of Scottish Radio Holdings, radio revenue rose by just 1% but was still ahead in a weak market. However, the SRH acquisition netted £76 million, which when taken into account, propels the figures to a revenue rise of 44%.

Tom Moloney, Emap’s chief executive, also revealed that the group is in the process of looking into new ways to generate revenues from the internet, from pay-for podcasting to subscriptions to the web sites of its trade publications.

The group’s strong brand identities are likely to stand them in good stead in the emerging digital marketplace.
