France dumped Portugal out of the World Cup last night and a peak adult audience of 10.8 million adults saw them do it, with Zidane’s first-half penalty proving the difference.
BBC1’s coverage attracted an average audience of 8.5 million adults (a 41% audience share), of whom many would no doubt have been cheering on les blues following England’s exit from the tournament on Saturday. A peak audience of 3.4 million ABC1 Men watched the match, with an average of 2.6 million (a 57% audience share) settling down to see who would face Italy in Sunday’s final.
Big Brother put up the best fight against the football, bringing in an average of 4.9 million (a 26% audience share).
There was a double bill of Emmerdale last night and the second episode, in its 10pm World Cup slot, was ITV1’s best performer on the night, bringing in an average of 3.9 million adults (an 18% audience share). ITV1 today announced that it will be launching its biggest ever Emmerdale promotion, which will run with the tagline “it’s far from quiet in the country” (see NewsLine).
Home & Away was once again Five’s biggest attraction, as it brought in an average adult audience of 1.6 million adults (a 12% audience share).
