Ofcom Awards FM Licence For Shrewsbury

Radio Transmitter Media regulator Ofcom has awarded the new local FM licence for Shrewsbury to MNA Broadcasting Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Midlands News Association.

The new station, to be branded Shrewsbury FM, will begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity, with Ofcom requiring activity to commence no later than two years from yesterday’s award date.

MNA Broadcasting’s win sees it beat competition from three rival applicants to provide the area with a “truly local, classic hits radio station,” carrying news, information and features of local relevance to Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

The new station will serve an adult population of between 100,000 and 120,000, although its exact coverage will be determined by technical characteristics, and the transmission site’s location. The new licence is issued for a twelve year period.
