Sky Management Reshuffle Gives Airey New Role

Sky Set Top Box BSkyB has reshuffled its senior management team, appointing three executives to new roles, including moving Sky Networks’ managing director Dawn Airey to a new position overseeing channels and multi-platform services.

Airey’s new role sees her take responsibility for Sky’s overall multi-platform content strategy, assuming additional control of Sky’s ventures across multiple platforms, including interactive TV, online and mobile.

The satellite boss will also manage joint ventures, wholesale distribution and relationship with third party channels on Sky’s platform.

Elsewhere, Jon Florsheim steps up to become managing director of Sky’s customer group, in addition to his existing title of chief marketing officer. The Customer Group will unite the broadcaster’s sales teams, marketing and customer operations to create a more unified service. The new team will lead Sky’s multi-product implementation strategy, including the launch of its broadband offering in the second half of the year.

Group strategy director, Mike Darcey, completes the management reshuffle, moving to the role of group commercial and strategy director, with responsibility for future technology, R&D and business development. Darcey will also manage and develop Sky’s major commercial relationships.

Explaining the need for the management re-think, Sky’s chief executive James Murdoch said the company was positioning itself for growth, following its announcement of record subscribers this month (see BSkyB Enjoys Record Growth In Subscribers).

“I am pleased to be able to call on three senior executives who have helped to bring Sky to where it is today and to extend their responsibilities in ways that are closely aligned with our business priorities,” he said. “With these changes, we will work together more effectively to create greater value for customers, exploit content on multiple platforms and expand into adjacent areas of business.”
