Five Signs New Documentaries To Bolster 2006 Schedule

Five Logo Five is to broaden its schedules with the introduction of new contemporary documentaries, combining human interest stories and factual programming.

The first such programme, Crucify Me, is due for broadcast in the autumn, following journalist and presenter Dominik Diamond on his quest to rediscover his faith.

The show will follow Diamond as he struggles to find his spiritual side, deciding whether his faith is restored enough to undertake the crucifixion ritual in the Phillipines, where committed Christians celebrate Easter by re-enacting the crucifixion of Christ.

Dunblane: A Decade On, will be broadcast by Five on 8 March 2006, focusing on the tenth anniversary of the tragedy and featuring an exclusive interview with one of the teachers present on the day.

Commenting on the new shows, Five’s director of programmes, Dan Chambers, said: “Crucify Me and Dunblane: A Decade On highlight the depth and diversity of our very strong factual line-up and will make for compelling viewing. Plus there’s a great mix of arts, science, features and entertainment shows coming up that will emphasise the variety of our programming over the coming weeks.”

Other highlights of Five’s new schedule will include Alive: Back to the Andes, a three-part documentary series recreating the ten day journey undertaken by two survivors from the famous Andes plane crash in 1972.

In a makeover show with a difference, The Estate will see Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan undertake a seven-month project to transform a run-down council estate in partnership with the local council and communities.

Elsewhere, a fifth series of Five’s science strand, Extraordinary People, starts on 27 February, with the series including The Real Rain Man – an in depth documentary following Kim Peek, the world’s most famous savant and the inspiration for the film Rain Man.
