X-Factor The second instalment of The X-Factor, on ITV1 at 7.30pm on Saturday night, was a mega hit with viewers, drawing a larger adult audience than the rest of the terrestrial channels combined.

A peak of 7.4 million adults (a 44.5% share of the audience) watched the wannabes line-up before the judges, with an average of seven million sticking with the show throughout its hour-long running time.

Over on BBC One at 8.30pm was the final of DanceX which saw Bruno’s team of talented singers and dancers see off Arlene’s troupe.

However, the high-kicking extravaganza could only attract a peak of 3.4 million adults (a 19.1% share).

On Sunday, Martin Clunes was back on the box in The Man Who Lost His Head. Clunes starred as a museum curator travelling to the fictional New Zealand outpost of Otakataka to assess whether it was appropriate for his museum to return a carved head of an ancestor to the local Maori community.

The light-hearted drama drew a peak audience of five million adult viewers (a 26.6% share), with Clunes’ amiable oaf shtick keeping an average of 4.7 million adults entranced for the show’s two-hour duration.

Over on BBC One was Mountain, with Griff Rhys Jones returning to the land of his fathers to have a jolly time around Snowdonia.

The programme, which saw Jones accompany Robin Kevan, a retired social worker who collects Snowdon’s litter, had a peak of 4.2 million adult viewers (a 21.9% share).
