Emap Advertising To Use Interactive Technology In Online Videos

Man On Internet Emap Advertising has today announced that it is to be the first UK company to use new technology that enables it to feature interactive advertising in in-stream online videos.

Emap Advertising has partnered with Adjustables, which has developed the new advertising technology, to promote Halo 3, the new game from Microsoft Xbox, in FHM Entertainment videos.

The new patent-pending technology makes it possible to display a spinning logo, banner, picture-in-picture or scrolling text as part of a video stream.

The Emap Advertising campaign sees the inclusion of a spinning logo for Halo 3 in the top right hand corner of FHM Entertainment videos from September 10 to October 10.

The logo will launch 10 seconds into the video stream and users will be able click on the logo and be directed to the official Halo 3 website.

Emap is the first UK company to use the new technology. Previously, it has launched in the Netherlands with Sanoma and in Belgium with VTM.

Bruce Daisley, digital sales director at Emap Advertising said: “This is an entirely new form of advertising. This new technology enables us to place flexible and effective advertisements into our online video content. The opportunities it opens up for our advertisers are fantastic.”

Kevin McGarr, account manager at Universal McCann added: “Reaching users as they consume video is one of the big challenges we face at the moment. This technology marks a big step forward in this area.”

Jan van Ottele, CEO of Adjustables, commented: “This new innovation offers advertisers the opportunity to start using the space on the screen interactively. This represents a revolution in online advertising.”

“The television networks have also discovered the possibilities offered by online videos. Online videos are enjoying unprecedented popularity, but TV executives are not yet sure how to exploit them in terms of advertising. The great benefit of this technology for the viewer is that online videos can remain free of charge whilst the advertisements shown within them are relevant.”
