A spokesperson for UK Gold told MediaTel this morning that rumours of a relaunch for the vintage satellite channel are ‘completely untrue’, claiming that UK Gold chiefs are satisfied with recent viewing figures and are in no way questioning the channel’s future.
A report in Sunday’s Independent implied that repeats of soaps such as Eastenders and Neighbours are to be axed but the channel has pointed out that these are two of the most highly watched programmes on UK Gold. Rumours of a relaunch were fuelled by a drop in the channel’s viewing share from 4.0% in November to 2.7% in December.
